I have been making Google Cardboard viewers with a group of students in my building.   There were many weeks of planning involved. In addition to collecting cardboard, I needed to find a source for the lenses (Ebay) and conductive fabric (Amazon).   Since we used X-Acto knives to cut out the templates we needed safety glasses as well.  Our tech director helped me by having 30 copies of the templates printed out to scale (400%) on a poster printer.   Progress has been very slow since cutting the cardboard carefully is time intensive, but now that the students are beginning to finish they are having a lot of fun with them.  I've never had so many kids thank me and they keep asking me what's next.

If you are considering doing this project yourself Google has downloadable instructions here: https://www.google.com/get/cardboard/get-cardboard.  Just be forewarned, the picture and the supplies shown do not match the instructions in the download. The website has a picture of the 1.0 viewer, not the 2.0 viewer.  It is my understanding that the 1.0 was really intended just for Android. It uses magnets.  The 2.0 should work on any smartphone and uses conductive fabric.  The lenses on the 2.0 are also larger.
